Shinning little lights

By Sarah Redman

I have always been a big candle fan, i guess it mirrors my love of perfume.

Candles – wilko

This year i moved into a house for my second year of uni and the musty un-lived in smell, combined with the previous years delightful lingering pot smell meant i have gone a bit candle crazy – but hey my room smells amazing so i don’t care!

Candles are a great, cheaper version of heating in a student house, a coupe of candles burning in my room for a little bit, with the door closed and even me (a compulsive cold person) can deal with the cold. They also look really pretty and the smell can be so calming.

These are the latest edition to my collection, from Wilkinson’s, they actually smell great for the cheep price of £1.75 and the pots are really cute. So i bough three: Lavender fields, vintage rose and vanilla pod.

Great minds think alike…

By Sarah Redman
Just like the below post this other Sarah loves her jewellery and as luck would have it, I have just acquired a lovely pair of swallow earrings myself.
Josh Johnston, my lovely boyfriend, bought me these beautiful turquoise bead earrings from the Wealden Times summer fair the other weekend. These earrings are from Gama, which is run by a woman who designs and makes vintage inspired jewellery. Which are all hand made, making each piece unique!
These earrings are so simple and elegant, they are also really light to wear and so versatile. She has some beautiful designs this season and quite a few feature swallows!

Vintage Shades

By Sarah Redman

The Sarah’s Style blog picked up a few gem’s at the recent vintage fair in Bournemouth.

One of my favorites, my retro style shades! Two for £15 – Bargain.

The Bournemouth Vintage Fair – Sunglasses Wall

Seen above as a wall of sunglasses, by the time I got to it most of the best ones were already gone!

However, I still managed to bag two pairs – one for when i’m feeling a little ‘vintagey’ and the second for when I’m feeling a little more quirky!

These are my ‘everyday’ sunnies, with a hint of tortoise shell and the gold detailing across the bridge of the nose and over the top of the eyes. This pair are more conservative and work well for any occasion – especially if you are already  rocking a variety of bright colours in your outfit.

The gold detailing gives a little edge to the otherwise not dissimilar pair to those found on the high street.

This pair really caught my eye. The bright purple, is eye catching, whilst the faded colour balances out the harsh frames.

The detailing on the arms of these shades mimics a very popular design i’m sure you’ll have seen. However, these are total fake (obviously) and for once, I agree with the fakery as the swirl design has been used as inspiration for this particular pair, whilst still being UV safe and CE approved!

All in all, i can’t wait for the sun – because I’m not sure I can pull off sunglasses and snow. Shame…

Apart from rummaging around the vintage store, spending money that I don’t have, I was on the look out for style savvy students, who caught my eye with their originality.

Jenny Masters, a student at Bournemouth University wears a jacket from Urban Outfitters, a playsuit from New Look and a bag from Primark. Jenny has used high-street stores, mixing prints and colours for an inspiring fresh vintage look.

Helen Clark and Ethan Jones admit to raiding the charity shops for their quirky vintage image, that is sure to have many fellow fashionistas jealous. Ethan says he got his jacket from his friends Grandma, just shows you never know what hidden treasures Grandparents may have stored. Helen Clark says her headband is from Molly’s Den.

With such personalised and creative looks you would not think Helen is just 15 and that Ethan is just 16

These students show that you don’t have to break your bank account to create a sophisticated vintage look, that is sure to turn heads.

Personally I consider this an area of fashion, much like I consider fashion to be art. (You can make your own mind up on that debate)

But whilst you do, take a look at this reupholstered stool from Cotton Candy Designs

Priced at £30.00 with a cute stamp design… #TheSarahsLove

Spring / Summer 2013 Style Guide: Boden – Great British Style

By Sarah Redman

Boden - Great British Style

Boden – Great British Style

Loving this brand at the moment, having grown up with my mum wearing it most summers in France, I feel at home in its comfortable chic style.

Having accepted a few hammy downs recently (student budget) – personally i prefer to call it ‘vintage clothes my mum bought when she had more money than i probably ever will’… has a bit more of a ring to it don’t you think? I was happy to see this Jersey Maxi Dress (WH504) – £89.00 in their spring /summer range for 2013.

This style is so easy to wear and has been used for a similar dress a few seasons ago (vintage mum dress), last summer I wore with gold  sandals and a floppy hat, never belting as it is too much on the print – however with this SS13 number, there are two plain versions  which would work perfectly with a thin metallic belt, like this ASOS Metallic Aztec Metal Keeper Super Skinny Waist Belt – £6.00. Hey – you’ll have already bought the dress give your purse strings a break… besides we all love ASOS and aztec metal print is just a bonus!

Or if you are going all out Boden I suggest the following to mix and match as you wish:

  • Floppy Felt Hat (AD126) – £39.00
  • Metal Disk Necklace (AK212) – £29.00
  • Peep Toe Espadrilles (AR576) – £59.00 to £79.00
  • Chelsea Bag (AM170) – £149.00
  • Cat’s Eye Shades (AV063) – £49.00
  • Suede Demi-Wedges (AR574) – £69.00 (Please chose the bright blue if teeming with the black maxi – it’s summer – you can’t be head to toe black, not even in the evenings! Show a little skin or get your brights on)
  • Boho Boots (AZ162) – £110.00 (To be worn in England – where summer is never really summer) #TheSarahsLove #WeWant

Boden always have great summer essentials, for when it’s too hot to think of something ‘super awesome, totally chic, fashionable and now’ to wear – because seriously who has the time? I will be sporting a few pieces from them in my summer wardrobe for those days when i just feel like minimal accessorizing.

One more added bonus to Boden – If you are a first time buyer they will send you a FREE scarf worth £19.

My thoughts: It would be rude not to buy really…
